Building Inspection

The Building Official of the City of Spring Valley Village welcomes you to our City. The Building Inspection Department is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of the City of Spring Valley Village residents. This department administers the building and zoning codes for the City.

The Building Official approves all new construction and proposed improvements of existing structures to make sure they conform to all City ordinances. Zoning ordinances control the location of all buildings and equipment on a lot. Final approval of all plans, permits, and inspections rests with this department, assuring owners of sound construction.

In addition to new structural construction, permits are required for any remodeling, fire sprinkler systems, roofing, plumbing, installation of air conditioning and heating systems, electrical, installation of vinyl siding, fireplaces, swimming pools and hot tubs, construction of garages and carports, sidewalks/driveways, patios, fences, lawn sprinkler systems, water and sewer lines, hot water heaters, adding or removing walls, demolition of structures, and house moving.

It is best to contact the Building Official regarding any work you contemplate on your home or lot. Copies of the Zoning Ordinances are available for purchase at the Permit Office in City Hall. Remember, the homeowner is responsible for seeing that the proper permits have been obtained before the work begins.
